Eat Well....

Have you heard the saying "You are what you Eat"? The quality of food we put into our bodies is exactly what we will get out of our body"
Growing bodies need great nutrition. They need all the vital nutrients and minerals for their rapid growth and development. Eating "raw" and "fresh" as much as possible is the key to great health for you and your family. Raw and fresh foods contain essential nutrients which is a far superior food choice compared to muesli bars, roll ups, chocolate bars and Mc Donalds to name a few. It is vital to encourage great eating habits at an early age to set them up for life. Growing bodies cannot function at optimal levels if the food we are putting in is not of the highest quality.
Think of this, " would you fill your car up with unleaded petrol instead of diesel?" and if so would you expect your car to run as if it was on diesel? These questions apply also to the human body, great fuel is required to make your body work better, function at optimal levels, to achieve more, be more productive and to grow and develop. Processed, packaged and fast food options have unfortunately become the food of choice for its availability, accessibility, easiness to prepare and increase salt and sugar making it addictive and appear to be more tasty.
Did you know what these types of foods contain? They contain partially hydrogenated oil, brominated vegetable oil, high fructose corn syrup, artificial colours and flavours, benzoate perservatives, caffeine, artificial sweeteners, MSG, olestra, sodium nitrite and nitrate. This creates a cocktail for obesity, heart disease, stroke, decreased energy, poor immune system, learning difficulties, overworked and stressed digestive systems, sluggish metabolisms- and this is what our kids are eating!
It is vital for the future of our community, our world and of course our children to be eating nutritious foods over a lifetime.

Port Melbourne Always Smiling

Its official, Port Melbourne has won the friendliest neighbourhood awards. The Smiles per hour project has been making our community friendlier since its inception in 2005. City of Port Phillip residents told council they wanted to make their local communities friendlier. A smile to a passerby exemplifies that good will. Smiles increase the perception that “our neighbourhood” is a friendly area and residents are more likely to enjoy and be proud of living there.

How does it work? A team of volunteer smile spies calculate the smiles per hour rating four times a year, in four streets in all seven neighbourhoods. The number of people who smile, nod or say g’day is recorded. Port Melbourne averages 16 smiles for hour. The smile per hour project exemplifies the work of the Community Pulse by engaging the community.
