Community Car Park to Go
From February 2010 the City of Port Phillip will begin the process of handing over the Kyme Place car park to a provite developer.
The developer will erect a four storey romming house. All thirty one parking spaces will cease to exist from when the development begins. This development will take up to two and half years to build
Once built, 35% of the current car park will be lost and access from Liardet Street will cease. This will put more pressure on the already saturated street parking at the expense of Bay Street shopping.
The KYME PLACE ACTION GROUP asks you to send an email to the councillors of the City of Port Phillip at councillors@portphillip.vic.gov.au and to the State local MP Martin Foley at martin.foley@parliament.vic.gov.au telling them that you DO NOT want council to give away this vital community asset to a private developer.

Port Melbourne Football Club to have the best facilities in VFL by 2011
New clubrooms will be built on the Williamstown Road side of the ground as part of a $4,700,000 upgrade of North Port Reserve. The new clubrooms will include two home dressing rooms, gymnasium with warm up/down area, new kiosk and can bar, a function and social room that can seat 300 people. Administration area and coaches offices will be included in the development. The two home dressing rooms will enable the Reserve team to move off the oval when their game is completed rather than sitting around on the oval.
The Norman Goss Stand will also be upgraded and refurbished with the second dressing room being reinstated giving visiting teams similar game day facilities to Port Melbourne. A lift will be installed to enable mobility impaired people to view games from the grandstand. The existing visitor dressing room will be converted to umpires rooms with provision being made for female umpires.
There will be new game day entries from Williamstown Road and Ingles Street and new public toilets replacing the existing will be built. Work is expected to start in the second half of 2010.
This redevelopment is a joint project of Port Melbourne Football Club, City of Port Phillip, Victorian Government and AFL Victoria.

Port Melbourne Always Smiling
Its official, Port Melbourne has won the friendliest neighbourhood awards. The Smiles per hour project has been making our community friendlier since its inception in 2005. City of Port Phillip residents told council they wanted to make their local communities friendlier. A smile to a passerby exemplifies that good will. Smiles increase the perception that “our neighbourhood” is a friendly area and residents are more likely to enjoy and be proud of living there.
How does it work? A team of volunteer smile spies calculate the smiles per hour rating four times a year, in four streets in all seven neighbourhoods. The number of people who smile, nod or say g’day is recorded. Port Melbourne averages 16 smiles for hour. The smile per hour project exemplifies the work of the Community Pulse by engaging the community.
Traders Reach Limit
VicRoads have refused to budge on demands to cut the speed limit along Port Melbourne's busy Bay Street shopping strip. Traders want an urgent speed reduction but the road authority has refused. Business Association president Sandy Britter said the 60km/h limit was "ridiculous" and needed to be dropped to 40km/h as soon as possible - a move backed by Port Phillip Council and a local politician. Ms Britter said traders were collecting signatures for a petition.
