The Power of Antioxidants
Acid vs Alkaline Diet
There has been much talk about switching to an alkaline-based diet. All food contains acid and alkaline elements, however it is the degree of the acid and alkaline ratio that determines whether it sits in the acid or alkaline scale. This is determined by the reaction it has in the body. Acid type foods in excess allow our body to be in an inflammatory state. It is this inflammatory overload that causes our bodies to work in overdrive- bad news to us as it can be blamed for colds/flu, weak immune system, gas, bloating, indigestion, fatigue, sleeplessness.
After the body digests the food, it produces end products it is these end products that get used in the body as fuel. If the fuel is primarily acidic it will not be as useful in the body as fuel that is primarily alkaline. Think of the fuel in the body like petrol in the car, if your car requires premium unleaded, and you fill it up with regular unleaded, your car will not run as efficient machine as if it was filled up with the right petrol. An alkaline state is needed for optimal health, wellbeing, fertility, strong immune system, energy and vitality. Alkaline foods are fresh fruit, fresh vegetables sprouted legumes, sprouted seeds, millet and buckwheat, raw milk, herbal teas, live plain yoghurt, chocolate, fresh fruit juices. Foods to avoid that are high in acid, dried fruits, white asparagus, artichokes, brussell sprouts, legumes, pulses, dairy products, meat, fish, poultry, tea, coffee, soft drinks, alcohol, seeds, nuts, wheat, rye, barley, oats, additives. For optimal health and wellbeing, it is ideal to keep the ration 3:1,
alkaline :acid. This allows your body to get good quality fuel from the food you intake that can be used to strengthen your immune system, support your gut and give you loads of energy.
